2026 State of Fitness & Wellness Content: What People Train, Finish and Come Back For

Fitness content changed fast in 2026.

When people train changed.
What they finish changed.
How long they commit changed.
And AI moved from experiment to production.

The 2026 State of Fitness & Wellness Content Report is Hyperhuman’s third annual look at the data shaping modern health, wellness and fitness experiences.

This year, for the first time, we can compare like-for-like year-over-year behavior across exercises, workouts, programs, training sessions and content distribution.

The headline?

Growth is no longer just about adding more content or acquiring more users.

It is about creating the right experience — and giving people a reason to come back.

The report is based on anonymized, aggregated activity across the Hyperhuman platform from January to September 2026, covering thousands of exercises, workouts, programs and training interactions, with year-over-year benchmarks against 2025.

Summer Beat January

The classic fitness calendar is changing.

In 2025, January represented 20% of Hyperhuman training sessions.

In 2026, January dropped to 8.2%.

Instead, June reached 23.4% and August 21.5%, meaning those two summer months generated almost 45% of all sessions recorded in the 2026 reporting period.

For fitness apps, gyms, wellness platforms and digital health teams, this changes the content calendar.

The opportunity is no longer one giant January push.

Build ahead of demand. Refresh libraries in spring. Launch another content cycle before late summer. Keep enough variety in the system to respond when engagement moves.

Mobility Became an Engagement Engine

Strength remains the biggest workout category.

But mobility is where engagement accelerated fastest.

Mobility grew to 22% of training sessions, up 9.8 percentage points year over year, while its completion rate climbed from 49.5% to 69.1% — the highest among major categories in the report.

Balance followed the same pattern, reaching a 60% completion rate.

That matters because wellness-oriented movement is no longer just an add-on around the “real workout.”

It is becoming part of the product.

Mobility, recovery, balance and movement quality can create more reasons to engage between harder training days — and more ways to serve broader health and wellness audiences.

ACSM’s 2026 worldwide fitness trends point in the same direction, ranking Balance, Flow and Core Strength #5, alongside wearables, active aging, weight management and mental health among the strongest demand signals.

Strength Keeps Winning — and Free Weights Are Accelerating

Strength grew to 30.3% of newly created workouts and 30.9% of training sessions, maintaining its position as the platform’s biggest category.

Inside exercise libraries, the shift is even clearer.

Free-weight exercises increased from 23% to 36.8% of new exercises, a jump of 13.8 percentage points in one year.

Stock-based exercise creation also rose sharply, from 11.7% to 40.1%.

The wider industry reflects the same shift. Free weights continue to grow across gyms, while group strength participation has reached new highs.

The opportunity is clear:

Make strength easier to enter.
Make progression easier to understand.
Support it with mobility and recovery.

Programs Got Shorter. Much Shorter.

The biggest structural shift in the report happened at program level.

In 2025, programs longer than eight weeks represented 91.8% of new programs.

In 2026?

Just 3.9%.

Instead, 3–8 week programs now represent 77.3% of new programs.

This points to a different model of commitment.

Not one huge plan.

A sequence of achievable outcomes.

Four weeks to build consistency.
Six weeks to improve strength.
Then reassess, adapt and move forward.

Shorter programs make it easier to show progress, create milestones and personalize what comes next.

Weight Management Became the #1 Program Goal

“Lose weight” appeared in 44.7% of new programs in 2026, up 19.1 percentage points year over year.

It is now the most common program goal in Hyperhuman’s dataset.

ACSM sees the same market shift. Exercise for Weight Management ranks #3 worldwide in 2026 — its highest position ever.

The next generation of weight-management experiences will need more than calorie burn.

Strength.
Mobility.
Recovery.
Progression.
Adherence.

Movement becomes the layer that helps turn short-term intervention into long-term behavior.

The Market Is Shifting From Downloads to Engagement

The wider fitness app economy tells a similar story.

Health and fitness app download growth has slowed, while consumer spending continues to rise.

Acquisition is getting harder.

Value is moving deeper into the experience.

Hyperhuman’s platform data reflects that shift: Jan–Aug training sessions increased 20% year over year, while full completion rose from 19% to 32%.

The metric that matters is not simply how many people download.

It is what happens next.

Do they start?
Do they finish?
Do they progress?
Do they return?

AI Moved From Feature to Production Layer

In 2025, AI was still emerging inside fitness content workflows.

In 2026, it went to work.

25.1% of end-user programs on Hyperhuman were AI-generated, compared with 0.3% in 2025.

AI video-generation and editing workflows also ran at a 79% higher monthly pace, while 9.7% of new exercises were created without traditional filming.

But this does not mean replacing coaches.

The stronger model is:

Human in front. AI behind the scenes.

Coaches, experts and brands stay visible.

AI handles more of the production, personalization, adaptation, localization and distribution required to scale them.

With Hyperhuman, one AI-ready Smart Library can combine stock content, licensed content, your own footage and AI-generated clips — then power personalized workouts and programs across app, web, embeds, social and API.

Distribution Is Becoming Automatic

Creating content is only half the job.

Getting it where people actually see and use it is the other half.

Manual file and YouTube exports on Hyperhuman fell 68% year over year.

At the same time, automated social publishing generated 634 publish events after launching in March, becoming the dominant distribution path by June.

The workflow is shifting from:

Create → Export → Upload → Repeat

to:

Create once → Publish continuously

Hyperhuman connects recurring content creation, social publishing and analytics so teams can keep both product content and acquisition channels moving from the same foundation.

What Should Fitness and Wellness Companies Build Next?

The 2026 data points toward a more connected content strategy for 2027.

Strength remains the spine.

Mobility becomes a core engagement pillar.

Weight-management experiences need muscle-preserving movement.

Programs become shorter and adaptive.

Wearable and progress data make personalization smarter.

AI scales the infrastructure while experts remain at the center of the experience.

Demand is there.

The challenge is delivering the right experience at the right moment.

Turn the Data Into Your Next Fitness Experience

Hyperhuman gives health, wellness and fitness companies the infrastructure to act on these shifts without building the entire content, personalization and delivery stack from scratch.

Create an AI-ready Smart Library from your footage, stock content, licensed content or AI-generated clips.

Personalize workouts and programs around goals, level, equipment and member context.

Adapt experiences as people progress.

Deliver across your own app, web, embeds, social or a fully branded member app.

Measure what people start, finish and come back for.

And with the Hyperhuman Content API, teams can bring content delivery, AI recommendations, generation, adaptation, sessions, insights and personalization directly into products they already own.

Start with the platform. Build something. See what your audience could experience next.
